Alice Pfeifle |
Funeral services for Alice Pfeifle, age 85, of Selby will be at 2 PM on Thursday November 13, 2008 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Selby. Burial will be on Friday at 1 PM MT at the Black Hills National Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will start at 5 PM on Wednesday with a prayer service at 7 PM at the United Methodist Church in Selby. Mrs. Pfeifle passed away Sunday at her home in Selby.
Alice was born on December 21, 1922 on a farm northeast of Herreid, SD to Calvin and Magdalena (Fischer) Wacker. As a young child her family moved to a farm Northeast of Trail City, SD. In 1938 they moved back to Herreid where Alice attended high school. She graduated from Herreid High School in 1941 and that fall she taught rural school around Artas, SD, where she taught for three years.
Alice married Fred Pfeifle on June 29, 1947 at the Herreid Congregational Church. They made their home in Sturgis for a short time and in 1948 they moved to Mound City. In 1956 they moved to Selby where they have since resided. Alice worked in the Campbell County Superintendent’s office, and the Campbell and Walworth County ASCS Offices for 23 years before retiring in 1983.
Alice was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a past member of Mound City VFW Auxiliary and extension clubs, WELCA and St. John’s Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday School and was the first church office secretary. She was also a volunteer at the Selby Good Samaritan Center. She enjoyed cross stitching, quilting, crocheting, gardening and playing cards. Alice enjoyed visiting with her grandchildren and especially enjoyed making kuchen & strudles for them at their request.
Alice is survived by her husband, Fred Pfeifle of Selby, Sons, Jim Pfeifle of Selby, SD and Mike Pfeifle of Sioux Falls, SD; eight grandchildren, Emily (Patrick) Fischer of Sioux City, IA, Matthew Pfeifle of Chandler, AZ, Sarah Pfeifle of Vermillion, SD, Jameson Pfeifle of Keystone, SD, Samuel Pfeifle of Meyers Flat, CA, Gina Pfeifle, Georgia Pfeifle and Gloria Pfeifle all of Sioux Falls, SD; two brothers, Elmer Wacker of Denver, CO and Marvin Wacker of La Crescenta, CA; three sisters, Marcella Harp of Sioux Falls, SD, Rosie Wikstrom of Seattle, WA and Shirley Reed of Arlee, MT.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Calvin and Magdelena Wacker.
Casketbearers will be Stuart Wacker, Duwayne Pfeifle, Julie Dilman, Renee Schlosberg, Sharlyn Hertz and Brian Pfeifle.
Honorary Casketbearers will be all of Alice’s Grandchildren.
Ushers will be Floyd Baumann and Oscar Prasek Jr.
Nancy Kindel will be the organist. Bill Thorstenson will sing “The Lord’s Prayer” and “Only A Shadow”. Congregational hymns will be “How Great Thou Art”, “Amazing Grace” and “Borning Cry”.
