Funeral services for Marjorie Boehrs 88 of Eagle Butte, SD will be Tuesday at 11:00 AM MDT at the All Saints Catholic Church in Eagle Butte, SD. Pastor Pauline Webb will officiate. Burial will be in the Eagle Butte Cemetery under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Visitation will be Tuesday beginning at 8:00 AM MDT at the church in Eagle Butte. Mrs. Boehrs passed away October 24, 2008 at Rapid City Hospice House in Rapid City, SD.
Marge (Skates) Boehrs passed away peacefully October 24, 2008 at Hospice House in Rapid City.
Marge was born to Walter and Ruth Skates in Cherry Creek, South Dakota on August 9, 1920, the oldest of 8 children. She spent her early years on the farm on Cheyenne River. She got her education at rural schools, Cheyenne River Boarding School and Eagle Butte school.
She married John Boehrs on June 5, 1937 in Pierre, South Dakota. To this union three children were born – Karen, Gerry and Royce.
Forty-two of their 49 years of marriage were spent in Eagle Butte. Marge was a member of the UCC Church, holding many offices. She belonged to the Eastern Star from the early 1950s to the present. She helped organize the Brownies and Girl Scout troops in Eagle Butte in the mid 1950s. She belonged to Kensington Club, Dakota Club, Esther Circle, Rodeo Club and other organizations. She was a member of the Moreau Grand Board of Directors for ten years. She worked for Tri-County Water from its inception until 1985.
Marge moved to Worthington, MN in 1997 to be near Royce and family, and spent 5 happy years there. In 2002, she moved to Rapid City.
She is survived by her children: Karen (LeRoy) Vrooman, Black Hawk; Gerry (Karen) Boehrs, Rapid City; and Royce (Paula) Boehrs, Worthington, MN; by 8 grandchildren: Tom (Marsha) Vrooman, Terri (Dale) McLellan, Becky Tilghman, Mitzi (Allen) Schrempp, Troy (Darla) Vrooman, Trina (Lou) Lends His Horse, Kristen (Jason) Aeikens, and J.R. Boehrs; by 18 great grandchildren: Misty, Cory, Kelsey and Thomas (Brittany) Vrooman; Kayla (Shane) Farlee, Kerry (Mariah) and Arleigh McLellan; Eric and Shanna Schrempp; Kyla and Jace Vrooman; William, Dysan, D’Aryn, Demi and Daci Lends His Horse; and Aiyana and Rainer Aeikens; and by 13 great-great grandchildren.
She is also survived by her brothers Bud, Riverton, WY; Jack (Doreen), Cody, WY; Bob (Lea), Billings, MT; Fred (Patti), Frederick, CO; sister Doris Brown, Billings, MT; sister-in-law Beverly Skates, Polson, MT; and many wonderful nieces and nephews.
Marge’s family was first and foremost in her life. If not for the love of each and every one of them she always felt she wouldn’t have lived such a happy and lengthy life.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a sister, Wanda; a brother, Bill; and her grandparents.
