Memorial services for Richard Wendt, age 67, of Glenham will be at 10:30 AM, Tuesday August 27, 2013 at the Family Worship Center in Mobridge, SD. A Memorial prayer service will be held on Monday evening at 7:00 PM at the Family Worship Center. Burial will be Thursday at 10:00 AM at the Black Hills National Cemetery in Sturgis, SD under the direction of Kesling Funeral Home of Mobridge. Richard passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2013 at Avera St. Luke's Hospital in Aberdeen.

Richard L. Wendt was born October 23, 1945 at Mobridge, SD to William and Pauline (Wessel) Wendt. He grew up in Mobridge and attended school in Mobridge graduating from Mobridge High School in 1963. Following High School Richard attended Vocational School in Springfield, SD and Studied building Trades. In 1965 he enlisted in the US Navy. While in the Navy Richard served two tours of duty in Vietnam before his honorable discharge on October 16, 1968. Richard was very proud to have had the privilege of serving his country and continued to show his respect for fellow veteran's by volunteering to drive the American Legion van to the VA Medical Center in Sturgis, SD. transporting patients.

Following his discharge from the Navy Richard attended Northern State College where he played basketball. In 1972 he returned to Mobridge and began his career with Montana Dakota Utilities which lasted 27 years he worked as a lineman and later as the foreman of the line Crew. Following his retirement from MDU Richard pursued his life long dream of ranching and in 1989 the family moved to the Ranch near Glenham where he has since lived and ranched. Richard married Peggy Kasch on Sept 7, 1974 and to this union three children were born. Mark, Darin and Amanda.

Richard loved all sports and Rodeo. He took great pleasure in watching young people compete in all types of sporting events and took pride in them when they did well and often added their picture to his collection of photos of young people competing.

Richard was very active in his community over the years he served on the Mobridge Rodeo Association Board serving as its president from 2002 to 2004. He also served on the CamWal board for 12 years.

Throughout his life Richard worked with Garrett VanVugt doing carpenter work and for Paul Steen erecting steel buildings.

Richard is survived by his wife Peggy of Glenham, two sons Mark (Kirsten) Wendt of Alcester, SD, Darin Wendt of Aberdeen, SD and Amanda Wendt of Glenham, SD, granddaughter, Prairie Madison Wendt, two sisters Cheryl (Byron) Perrine of Bird Island, MN and Debi (Lanny) Saintsing, Mobridge, SD and many nieces and Nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

The Urn bearers will be Levi Haefner and Cody Zeller.

Honorary Urn bearers include the very special young people in his life Granddaughter Prairie Madison Wendt, Cash and Rudie Hepper, Morgan and Kendra Wolff, Shawna Madison, Pearson, Reece and Channing Wientjes, Jackson, Olivia and Cayci Spencer. Also Bill Perrine, Sarah Perrine, Rod and Sheryl Moon, Tom and Nancy Hepper, Adolph and LaVerne Hepper, Davis and Wanda Martin, Bill and Peg Schell, Skip and Judy Larson, Faron and Marilyn Schweitzer, Dave and Sheila Lipp, Jack and LuAnne Morris, Steve and Rick Christman, Dean and Joann Wendt, Jim and Fran Peterson, Casey Perman, Ken and Roxanne Ripley, Ross and Kari Wientjes, Jack & Rhonda Schock, Emil Perman, Red and Audrey Traversie, Roger and Bonnie Thorstenson, Marty and Monica Lawrence and Justin and Jenny Lawrence, Byron Becker, Larry and Shirley Schanzenbach, Bernie and Dorothy Tibbs, Hoagies Bar & Grill Crew, MHS Class of 1963, Jeff Bonn and the Cam Wal Electric Board of Directors.
